| FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) |
|
1. Do I download MS Office and/or install it on my computer?
No. The applications run on our powerful servers and you access the software applications through your web browser.
2. Is this a different version of Office?
No. Office as a hosted application service is a new way of delivering the same industry-leading Office programs available in retail stores. Microsoft has been working for quite some time on this offering, which takes advantage of the fact that Office was developed to perform optimally in a hosted environment.
3. Do I need high speed internet access to use Office on eSERVER? Does it use a lot of bandwidth?
No. Our services can be used with as slow as a 56k modem. Because only screen updates and keystrokes are passed through the internet, it does not use a lot of bandwidth.
4. What kind of operating system do I need to have?
Although the MS Office Suite is Windows based, our system allows it to run on a PC, MAC, Unix, or even DOS platform. It runs through the client software or your web browser.
5. Where do I save my files when I am working in the software?
We provide each user with a "remote disk drive" so your files can be stored on our servers which are backed up every day. You do have the choice to save your files on our servers in your "remote disk drive" or on your own computer if you desire.
6. Will my documents be secure if they're saved over the Internet?
Office benefits from Microsoft Windows 2003 security at the server level, and documents are sent to the server using Citrix's ICA, which encrypts information and offers an additional level of security. We also backup all data files on a daily basis.
7. Can I print on my printer even though the software is running from your servers?
Yes. When you log into your account, the system maps your print drivers so that you can print on your printer. If you use a network printer, it will work with that as well.
8. When I use your service, do I then own the license for Microsoft Office?
No. You are purchasing the ability to rent access to the software. We remain the licensee of the software and allow you to use it. If you decide to no longer use the service, the software remains on our servers and is property of eSERVER.
